Spring Break 2013 - Washington DC

How did I forget to write about our trip to DC?  This post is a little late but to good to forget.  We took the kids to DC for spring break this year.  They are so into everything about the presidents right now we couldn't resist!  Matt can recite them all in order!  Courtney did a report on Martha Washington this year at school so of course we had to go and fuel this fire!

Here are some pics of the highlights!

This is us in front of the White House.
The kids in front of the White House.
The Washington Monument.  They were doing some repairs due to the earthquake last year.
The kids at the Lincoln Memorial.
You know Matt loves a good memorial.  The Korean War Memorial is really good.  This picture doesn't quite capture how neat it is.  It looks almost 3-D.
 The Capital.
It was sunny and bright out but very COLD.  Didn't feel like spring break at all.
This is Courtney at Mount Vernon in her Martha Washington costume.  We spent ALL DAY at Mount Vernon.  We just couldn't get enough.  Between this trip and the trip to Springfield my kids saw Lincoln's actual top hat and Washington's actual false teeth in the same month.  They didn't seem to understand how totally cool it was so see these amazing American artifacts....someday, I hope.

Sometime either a little before or a little after we were there they ended The Amazing Race at Mount Vernon.  We were all so disappointed we didn't get to see it.  It's our favorite show!
This is outside of the Spy Museum where we ran into Mrs. Beirnes, one of the kids' Kumon teachers.  She took this picture of us.  We run into her everywhere!
This is the list that Matt made to keep track of all the memorials and monuments he wanted to see.  We did them all!!
This is at the MLK Memorial.  Patrick says he'll catch Matt but this somehow he missed him and he fell on the ground, it was very dramatic....and kinda funny too.
This is the US Navy Memorial (I think).  Matt loved it.  We shouted out countries and he found them.  We spent a lot of time here!
It was a great trip and I can't wait to go back when the kids are a little older and understand government a little better.  We all had a great time despite the lack of cherry blossoms.
